Problem eaters

Eating problems are common, variable and have no simple one hit solutions. The journey to turn a fussy eater into a healthy all rounder is likely to be long and arduous but one of the most important investments a parent can make. Establishing a regular 5 a day of fruit and vegetables prevents bowel cancer, heart disease and stroke and has been implicated in the reduction of other disease.

Likewise obesity is associated with increase in diabetes, heart disease, high blood pressure and strokes but many people don't know that being overweight can significantly increase your risk of cancer.

In addition poor or unhealthy eaters can get constipation (see other section), anaemia and vitamin deficiencies. It is vital that parents have both the relevant information about a healthy diet and also the confidence that their child is well enough to tolerate changes in diet that may require firm boundaries and refusal to deliver only the things they like.
